Tulane Breastfeeding Campaign

We were asked to create an ad/PSA for African-American women in urban areas that promoted breastfeeding.
Research told us that breastfeeding is uncommon and often seen as taboo amongst low income African-American women. These women do not have the community support of family and friends who encourage or promote breastfeeding.

The Solve

We created a tool kit that was portable and affordable to produce. The elements in the toolkit allowed Tulane’s Women’s Health staff and the women from the community who came through to be walking billboards for the campaign. With more women promoting the message, we hoped to create a new sense of community that was currently missing. The messaging was bold and modern. Everything pointed to a Facebook page that provided information about breastfeeding and reinforced the community aspect.
